What Causes Chills After Taking Cipro For UTI?

My husband was prescribed Cipro for an infection in urine and testicles. Went to emergency room because of pain and swelling of testicle. He has prostate cancer, diabetes, chronic leukemia and chronic kidney disease. Awhile ago he began shaking uncontrollably. Tried to take blood sugar but couldn’t . I gave him a peppermint. About 6 minutes later, shaking stopped. He took blood sugar and it was 159.Dont know if it was low blood sugar or reaction to antibiotic. Do you have any idea what could be going on?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The shivering is part of the systemic immune response to underlying infection in urine and testicles. It is not because of side effect of antibiotic or low blood sugar.

In our clinic, I suggest to additionally take anti inflammatory drugs along with the antibiotic to get better results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
