What Causes Broken Veins In The Knee?

A vein has burst just behind my knee, it feels slightly swollen and looks bruised on the outside and dark purple in the middle.it is roughly3cmround.I have had a cluster of slightly risen veins there for some time.I have not banged my leg.Should I bee worried, will it go?
