What Causes Blurred Vision When Diagnosed With Severe Ocular Migraine?

I am an 18 year old female. Three years ago I had the Implanon birth control rod inserted. Recently I have had severe ocular migraines with aura, pain behind the eyes, blurred vision, flu symptoms, and black/ brown vaginal blood/dishcharge These symptoms have continued for about two weeks. For the first year I had Implanon I did not have a period, only minor spotting. Could my symptoms be related to my birth control? I ve had an MRI and am now taking migraine medicine (Reglan).

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that your headaches are being either triggered or contributed to by the birth control you are using since it is a known side effect and consequence.

Another possibility is that you may have developed severe headaches of a migraine type but for this diagnosis and appropriate treatment, I suggest you visit a neurologist.

The neurologist can go through your history and perform a complete neurological evaluation to determine whether there could be anything else afoot causing this problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
