What Causes A Biliary Obstruction?

my mother is 86. she had blood work done and was told there may be a blockage between her pancreas and gall bladder. she has complained of some discomfort and wants to wait to take any further tests. I told her to admit herself for the tests. I haven't spoke with the Dr my brothers have and I am not in the same area. what could be the cause of the blockage?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pancreatic blockage may be due to gallstones or malignancy of head of pancreas or ampullary carcinoma or infection or biliary spasm etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

She may need ERCP/MRCP/CT abdomen and ultrasound abdomen etc.

Please consult your surgeon, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
