What Causes UTI, Low Sodium And Dehydration In Elderly?

My mother is 91 yrs old. She was admitted to the hospital with a UTI, low sodium and dehydration. They put her on Cepro (Antibiotic) not sure i spelled it correctly. The UTI has cleared up but her sodium levels continue to fall. Her Dr has her on Trazadone to help her sleep, she takes a thyroid supplement for hypo thyroidism for 60 yrs) , and a low dose statin for elevated cholesterol. She is dis-oriented, very weak, and is not getting better. She has always been very healthy, her entire life with no significant problems. She takes a senior multi vitamin, fish oil, calcium, and a glusosamin tablet each day in addition to her prescriptions I mentioned above. Could the low sodium be the reason for her decline? What would you do if you had a patient with these symptons?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for query.
Symptoms like disorientation ,weakness insomnia are due to low serum Sodium levels resulting out of dehydration and water aand electrolyte imbalance .
Her symptoms will get resolved once her sodium levels are corrected to normal

You need her to get admitted in hospital for a day or two and give her I.V fluids containing high sodium Chloride which will help to increase her sodium level along with Soda mint tablets orally .

She has to drink more water mixed with lime will help het to maintain proper hydration and electrolyte balance .
