What Are The Negative Effect Of Alcohol On Eyes?

I got some type of alcohol (perhaps isopropyl 91 or 75%) in my eye earlier at work today. I was spraying it on something near my neck and tiny particles flew into my eye. I washed it with cold purified water for approx 1 min or 2 mins then added Visine clear eyes drops about 5 or 6 drops. My eye turned very red and I was scared so I rinsed it with water for another few minutes and then noticed that the redness went away. It never burned but for a short amount of time after the second rinse. I am worried that I may have caused damage to my eye but I havent noticed anything in my vision so am I okay? I work in a Pharmacy and had the asked the pharmacist and the Nurse Practitioner on call and they both said just rinse with water and it will be fine.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It can cause corneal erosion. One right thing you have done is washing the eye with clean water. You should repeat it. No treatment is required. In future put on the protective glass in such work.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
