What Are The Ill Effects Of Having Sex With Glandular Fever?
3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with glandular fever. 2 weeks prior to the diagnoses i was feeling odd, but only showing headaches and tiredness. Then diagnoses due to swollen glands. Me and my boyfriend were sexually active right up until the diagnoses. And in recent weeks we have resumed kissing. When can we start having sex again?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Glandular fever is caused by herpes simplex type 1 virus. The virus transmits by oral route as well as sexual route but herpes simplex type 2 is known to cause infection of the genital tract. Since, you were sexually active before diagnosis of the infection, it is quite likely that the infection has spread to your partner also. Your partner also needs to be treated for herpes simplex infection. Resuming of sexual activity and kissing will transmit the infection and the infection will not be cured. So, do not indulge in kissing and practise safe sex till the infection is cured.
