What Are Other Conditions Which Might Be Mistaken For Herpes?
Hi, I am having few red bumps on the glans(head) of my penis. They are not itchy or painful and do not have any secretions coming out. They feel like any other area on the glans. My doctor took a look at it and said it looks like herpes. I do not have any symptoms related to herpes however I know that herpes can come through without any symptoms. My question is what are other conditions which might be mistaken for herpes? And is a PCR test conclusive enough? Sex history: unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex since one and a half year.
There are a few conditions which can be confused with Herpes. Generally Herpes is painful but other conditions are not painful. If the wounds are painless, then you may not have Herpes.
Here are a list of conditions that can cause similar lesions: Allergy Rash Other STDs
I think that you should see a Doctor and get a Tzank smear done to help you. If the test is positive, then you should see a Doctor to get treated for this. If negative, then get a STD panel done so that you can confirm the cause.
All the best. Hope this helps you. Dr Vignan
