General Surgeon 's  Response
I welcome you to healthcare magic for your health concerns
I am Dr Fahim and I will be looking into your problem

I have gone through your question and understood you concern. You have difficulty in diagnosing a condition affecting your mom and you are thinking it is a varicose vein. Well varicose veins are dilated, tortuous veins. Usually present on the medial (inner) aspect of the lower leg. If you press these veins it can be decompressed and milking it upwards empties it. It needs your attention because long standing varicose vein results in numerous complications like vein thrombosis, ulcers formation and bleeding.
Varicose vein is treated by Vascular Surgeon and by General Surgeon with special interest in varicose veins. Treatment options include Ultrasound guided Foam Sclerotherapy, Endovenous Radio-frequency Ablation, Laser Ablation. These above mentioned techniques require special equipment and are performed by only Vascular Surgeon, so these are quite expensive.
Another treatment option which is LIGATION AND STRIPPING of the varicose vein. Its relative simple and cost effective option. This is performed by almost every General Surgeon.

I hope my answer will help. Do rate if you like it.
