General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concern.
Your dad is suffering from Pulmonary tuberculosis affecting his both lungs.
This is a serious disease and has very high mortality if left untreated but curable if proper treatment for adequate duration is taken.
Your dad should receive 4 anti-tuberculosis medicine for 2 months namely, Isoniazide, Rifampice, Pyrazinamide and Ethambutol. This should be followed by 2 drugs, Isoniazide & Rifampice, for 4 months.
Adherence to the treatment is of utmost importance for complete cure.
He should consult a physician or chest specialist as advised and be subjected to sputum examination after 2 months of treatment and as advised later on.
Hope this will be helpful.
Do ask if any further question is there.
Take care.

Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Arun's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern.
I am Dr. Arun Tank, infectious diseases specialist, answering your query.

Yes, TB is curable if the proper treatment is taken.

TB can't be diagnosed only on the basis of the x ray. If you have laboratory report of sputum for your father than your TB is confirmed.

I suggest you to do GeneXpert test from your father's sputum to know the sensitivity status of the TB.

From this report your treatment than becomes very easy.

Completed timely treatment can cure complete infection.

I will be happy to answer your further concern, you can ask me on bit.ly/DrArun.
Thank you.
