Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had mrsa infections on and off for about 8 yrs. A year ago I learned I have hepatitis c. Six weeks ago I had pyelonephritis, kidney infection. And now at two and 1/2 weeks ago I had mrsa infection that s not completely gone. What am I supposed to do wait for the infection to come to a head again or go to the ER for testing to see if it s the same infection or a new one?
As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:
1) Do a physical examination by your family Doctor and to confirm do few investigations like [CBC with differential and culture of tissue samples or nasal secretions].
2) Your Doctor will add specific antibiotic for the infection and sometimes no antibiotics are required only draining is required.
Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:
1) Wash your hands. Careful hand-washing remains your best defense against germs. Scrub hands briskly for at least 15 seconds, then dry them with a disposable towel and use another towel to turn off the faucet. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer containing at least 62 percent alcohol for times when you don't have access to soap and water.
2) Keep wounds covered. Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal. The pus from infected sores may contain MRSA, and keeping wounds covered will help keep the bacteria from spreading.
3) Keep personal items personal. Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, sheets, razors, clothing and athletic equipment. MRSA spreads on contaminated objects as well as through direct contact.
4) Shower after athletic games or practices. Shower immediately after each game or practice. Use soap and water. Don't share towels.
5) Sanitize linens. If you have a cut or sore, wash towels and bed linens in a washing machine set to the hottest water setting (with added bleach, if possible) and dry them in a hot dryer. Wash gym and athletic clothes after each wearing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
