Suggest Treatment For Headaches

Hello, I am a 20 year old male in good shape and for a month now I have been dealing with constant headaches. I have had no previous history of constant or chronic headaches before. The pain ranges from mild to moderate and it is mostly located in both temple regions and in the back of my head. I would describe the pain as dull, sharp, and throbbing. Sometimes I also experience behind behind my eyes and around my sinus area. I have also had weird pulsations throughout my head 24/7. My temples are constantly pulsating and my head feels like a heartbeat. My doctor doesn t seem to know the cause of the headaches and has prescribed me 50mg of Amitriptyline to take a night, although it doesn t seem to be helping. Also, and this might be unrelated, and have recently started experiencing weird twitches and fasculations throughout my feet and thumbs. I really don t know the cause of all these symptoms and the longer this goes on, the longer I start to worry.

Neurologist 's  Response
Good day. My name is Dr. Saghafi and I am a neurologist and headache specialist from the Cleveland, OH region of the world. Essentially, I always approach my headache patients by getting a good solid baseline of their problem before embarking upon medication or other treatments. If things are as you say and you really have no history of headaches then, there should be an identifiable cause to constant daily "heartbeat/throbbing" headaches for which you say amitriptyline is not working. The headache diary is the only reasonable way of treating folks with these disorders for which no cause is readily discernible. Otherwise, treatments simply become shotgun approaches which can lead to medication overuse syndromes or inappropriate choices.

If you would like to consult me for more specific information on what may be causing your headaches as well as the best intervention then, please write me at

and we can set up a consultation to begin the process.

Good luck.
