Suggest Treatment For Headache, Cold And Nasal Congestion

Hi my partner came down with a head cold yesterday, he hasn t got a stuffy nose, headaches have gone but now he has excessive Saliva. He feels he has a lump in his throat so when trying to swallow its blocked so he feels the need to spit and get rid of the saliva that way. It has led him to be sick aswell. He has never had this before. He is trying to sleep now but can t as it s keeping him awake. People have said gaviscon works, just wondered if this was worth him trying or is there anything else he could do?

Hello,

Your partner's symptoms seem to be due to pharyngitis, inflammation of the throat.

Gaviscon is an antiacid for the stomach, so it wouldn't be of any help.

In those cases you've heard it helped it must have been at the throat inflammation was due to stomach acid reflux disease, but the inflammation is not due to acid reflux in this case.

As for what to do, symptoms should subside gradually by themselves, but a short course of steroid anti-inflammatories should help in a quicker recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
