Suggest Treatment For Feeling Of Paralysis During Sleep

Sometimes when I first go to sleep at night and in the middle of sleep as well, I get this extreme feeling of being paralyzed and as I know what s going on in my mind, I can t break out of it and wake myself up. When I eventually do break out of this terrifying but conscious nightmare, it pulls me straight back in like I have absolutely no control to wake myself up. This happens 3 to 5 times in a row when this occurs to me. started out maybe 10 years ago but in the past few years has gotten more frequent. Especially in the past year( approx. 3 times a week) I even conciously mutter noises in attempt to get my wife to shake me out of it. In this state of my mind I am frantic and I am doin everything in my power to break myself out of this horrible realistic nightmare. The last time was 30 min ago and it was taking my ability to breathe away. It feels as if I am under control by something in my mind and there is nothing I can do about it.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Your problem is that you feel paralysed in the sleep and you loose control over yourself.

There is quite high possibility that you have might have narcolepsy. To diagnose or rule this out, sleep EEG would be required.

I suggest you to visit a psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and get a Sleep-EEG done.

Thanks.
