I have a male friend who was diagnosed with chlamydia 2 weeks ago today. He was tested and treated with a one time shot as well as 4 antibiotic pills. He started feeling better but some of his symptoms came back a couple days ago. He seems kind of depressed about it and is very afraid of going in to get retested because the swab test was too painful. I m trying to convince him to go in but he is very reluctant to do so. Will he have to get re-swabbed if he goes in? Or can he just get a booster of some kind? Maybe a urine test? Maria
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Swab testing would not be painful in normal circumstances. Urine deposit examination also would reveal if there is a relapse or not. Consummation adequate water is necessary. Sex partners should get treated simultaneously. Sexual abstinence for a period of 2-3 weeks during treatment is a must. If that single dose therapy is not effective, you can try alternative multi-dose regimen with Doxycyclin for 2 weeks as per the guidance of your physician. Wish him a speedy recovery. Dr S.Murugan
