Suggest Remedy For Smashed Big Toe With Bleeding

I am a 70 year old diabetic on insulin. I smashed my big toe about a week ago. Toe is not broken and there was no bleeding. I iced it daily for a few days and am wearing an open toed sandal because if there I put any pressure on the top of the toe, it hurts. Naturally it immediately turned black and blue but the nail turned whitish. Yesterday, it started to drain watery blood. I used hydrogen peroxide to clean it. After about 5 hours of intermittent draining and cleaning, it has stopped draining. My question is, can I treat this myself by continuing as I have been doing and see if the nail falls off on its own, or should I make an appointment with either my Internist doctor or my foot doctor?

Hi,
You should never try to treat this wound by yourself as you are diabetic.
Any infection in the body particularly infection or injury should not take it lightly for a patient suffering from diabetes.
Consult your doctor and go for treatment as soon as possible with proper dressing.
Ok and take care.
