Suggest Remedy For Excruciating Headache

Hi I’m an 18 year old college student and yesterday, while taking a shower, I coughed, and then had one of the most excruciating and pain full headaches ever. It was just painful in the back of my head and lasted of about a minute until it began to die down. I felt pressure and throbbing feeling thereafter for about an hour. Later that day after lifting for football, I was dressing for practice and I sneezed and the same thing happened. This time it brought me to my knees from my chair. I didn’t see the trainer because I didn’t really want to be complaining, and I told my teammates not to get him. Well know I have a lot of pressure in the back of my head, with the throbbing feeling, and getting sharp little pains here and there. It is now worrying me and I don’t think I should ignore it. Is this something to go to the ER about (its 1 AM) or just make an appointment sometime later in the week? Also what could have caused this?
