General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for asking your question.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and has to be supplied through diet. Niacin or tryptophan deficiency can lead to pellagra which causes diarrhea, dermatitis and dementia mainly. This can lead to loss of weight. The only treatment is to take niacin supplements and foods rich in tryptophan like red meat, fish, poultry, breads, cereals, peanuts, etc.
Hope this helps and let me know directly if you have any further relevant queries, i will be happy to guide you in proper path.

First make sure you are deficient. Consult a doctor and find out the real cause. There are hundreds other possibilities for weight loss. Please donot over indulge in self medication.
