Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has an infection on his wrist. He has seen the doctor, she released some of the pressure by punturing the infected area, prescribed an antibiotic which he has been on for over 24 hrs yet his hand, wrist, and arm up to his elbow is very swollen. I believe almost to a severe point. He has been keeping ice on it also but the swelling isn't going away. What do we need to do shy of going to the ER. Are there any other home remedies?
Hi, As antibiotic is started so wait for a day or two as it takes sometime to start its effect. Give him some NSAID anti-inflammatory medicine along with antibiotics. This will give relief from pain and swelling. Continue ice application. Ok and take care.
It seems like a boil or carbuncle that you are talking about. Since the doctor has already drained it and still it is not relieved, merely topical antibiotic ointment may not help and he might need oral or systemic antibiotics. I would not insist you to go for home remedies. Please visit a doctor and get it treated.
