Should I Examine My Son For Possible Eye Damage Post Injury?

My 16 month old son fell and hit his eye on the corner of the end table. It bled very little, but he has a semi deep scratch from his eyebrow to just above the crease on his eyelid. He also has some swelling centered above the eye. He cried very little and did not rub it except for when I cleaned it. His eyes appear to be functioning fine (no discoloration, pupils same size, etc.) Does he need to have it examined?

Hello... I read your post. From what you describe your son seems to have injured his forehead and his eye. From what you tell me it looks like the swelling near the eyebrow could be small bleed called ecchymosis. Cold compresses would help this. Coming to the eye part from what you tell , its unlikely that he has had any significant eye injury. But sometimes there can be some changes like reaction in the eye, changes in retina that may not have symptoms but will show up on examination. So i would suggest that you get your son examined in detail so that any damage is identified early. For any further queries please feel free to ask me.
