Is There Complete Cure For Fibromuscular Dysplasia?

My mother passed away in October 2013. She had been sick for many years and over time got worse. Dr.s ran MRI ct angiogram Doppler all kinds of test. The last months of her life she had so much pain in stomach when she would eat or not eat lost a lot of weight fast. Was in hospital the day before she passed. They were sending her to Dallas to see if they could find something more than what they were finding. She ended up dying from SCAD spontanious coronary artery dissection. We just got autopsy report saying she had fybromuscular dysplasia. How was it missed. Everything I have read about it and seen pics of the test it seems like the dr.s would have seen it. I can t wrap my head around it. It explains all of her symptoms and everything makes sense now. They thought it was her pancreas for a few years and autopsy said her pancreas was fine just like all the test did. Hurts my heart to know it could of been treated and she could still be here.

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read facts of your query and reviewed it in context to your health issues submitted.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.
You seem to be suffering from following possibilities-As the FMD-fibromuscular dysplasia- is very rare disease-could be thought of by experts dealing with strokes and CAD.
Besides this knowledge- there is no specific treatment for FMD-as the cause is mostly genetic.Only the stenotic effects like hypertension , thrombotic clots and its ischemic complications could be treated.
If proper diagnosis done and cause is fixed- by inerventional radiologists and Vascular Surgeons-rtPA-recombinant tissue Plamingogen Activators-like Activase / Actiplase / streptokinase /Urokinase - could be used at right time to reduce the complications of stenotic hypertension causing Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection- and sudden death.

Mostly the arterial -renovascular / or carotid / or Coronary complications with FMD -are caused by stenotic effects by abnormal dysplastic cell growth in the muscular arterial walls causing primary stenosis and obstructive stenosis from blood clots later on.
-You need to Consult Vascular and Cardia-Vascular-surgeon to fix causes of the SCAD-spontaneous Coronary Artery dissection-if one is lucky to suspect the fibromuscular dysplasia-as a cause of the disease complaint in one's case.

Alerts-for you-
One can only suspect with high suspicion-but to its rarity- which makes the detection and diagnosis very difficult even with the experts availability.
For this to verify Second opinion from another Cardio-Vascular Surgeon and interventional Radiologist as soon as possible is needed if one suspects the FMD as a cause of the vascular or the presenting complaint in any patient, for all practical purposes- which is a challenging task for the treating and attending doctors
.
Just don't worry and be patient and co-operate with your doctors, till you verify with your attending doctors.

Hope this would help you to treat your health issues in the best way possible.
