Is It Possible To Get Viral Infection By Kissing?

I hungout with this guy on thursday & it is now sunday. He told me he has a cold sore on his bottom lip in the middle. I didnt kiss him directly on the lips but when we kissed eachother on the cheek goodbye, the corner of his mouth touched the corner of mine. We also shared a ciggarette. Is it possible he could have been viral shedding and gave me the virus?
