Is Benadryl Effective For Swelling In The Eyes Caused By A Yellow Jacket Sting?

My son got stung by a yellowjacket, although he doesn't have anaphylactic issues like swelling in the throat or anything like that his whole side of his face is had his ear his eyes swelled completely shut I have a picture to send if you like but he went to an ER and they told him just to take Benadryl I'm concerned with that answer

Hi,

Wasps sting causes inflammatory reaction at the site of sting but can cause systemic reaction too if sting number is high. Immediately after the sting, locally a inflammatory chemical, i.e., histamine is released, which causes swelling, redness, itching.

And medication you are prescribed, i.e., Benadryl have medication, i.e., Diphenhydramine which counteract histamine. So continue medication as advised by your physician. I would like you to add cold compresses with ice 4-5 times a day for soothing effect and early resolution of swelling.
