Is 0.025mg Dosage Of Medication Appropriate For The TSH Level Of 5.85?

Hi Dr. My TSH level is 5.85 and my GP just prescribed .025mg. In the past my GP has tended to incrementalize dosages of medications and then increase when my body does not respond to the lower dosage. Do you believe that this dosage is appropriate to start with. I have been taking for a week and have yet to notice any impact?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.

You have not mentioned your body weight , age and any cardiac disease. However 25mcg is appropriate at the initial level and as per response it can be gradually up titrated. TSH can be measured every 6-8weeks and based on this your doctor will adjust the dose.

Hope this helped. Do let us know.
