How To Get Rid Of Red Bump On The Back Of My Hand?

Hello, Last September while on a short vacation I noticed a small red bump on the back of my left hand. It was slightly irritated but I didn t think anything of it. Over the next several weeks, instead of going away, it got much bigger. Now it s about the size of a large pea. It was flesh colored for a while until I researched and found it was probably a dermatofibroma which could potentially be frozen off. I tried a few nitrogen freezing sessions on it and all I ve managed to do is destroy my skin and make the bump permanently red. It will sometimes itch and it hurts a lot when it s bumped (but it s also on the back of my boney hand). I am uninsured and have asked around and it apparently could cost about $750 to have it removed. Are there differentiating characteristics between dermatofibroma and nodular melanoma that I may use to narrow down how important this could be to remove? I tried the pinch test but the skin is so damaged it doesn t move over the bump. Thank you!

Hi,Welcome to HCM.
By the facts of your query,You neither have Dermatofibroma nor nodular melanoma on back of your left hand.
Don't treat by self diagnosis, which could complicate a simple problem in to complex issue like yours.
Nitrogen Freezing has made the skin on the lump fixed to the lump and has made its diagnosis little more difficult.
In my opinion you seem to have-Ganglion Cyst of the Wrist dorsom.
Its a benign condition and is a histiocytoma-hamartomatous cyst form the synovial lining of the small bone joints of the wrist.
If hot fomentation/Cold compresses/Anti-inflammatory drugs don't reduce it,then I would suggest CT scan and planned Arthroscopic laser ablation, which reduces its recurrence chances, than a open surgical treatment from a Surgeon or Orthopedic endoscopic Surgeon.

Hope this would help you to plan treatment with your doctor.
Will appreciate hitting thanks and writing review comments to benefit needy patient visitors at HCM like you.
Good day.
