How Long Does It Take For A Large And Slightly Swollen Bruise To Heal?

I had a recent fall on concrete steps and have a large, very dark purple bruise about 6-8 inches in length. It’s very sore, slightly swollen and has a burning sensation and slight numbness feeling portion of the bruised area. Should I keep icing? How long might this last?

Hi,

Well, bruising after a fall occurs due to damage to small and superficial blood vessels leading spillage of blood and accumulation into the soft tissues.

Swelling and pain with burning sensation are due to inflammation caused due to injury.

Yes, you should keep icing it and along with it, you should elevate your feet while lying down. You can take an anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.

In case if there is worsening or pain and swelling do not improve in a week get checked by a doctor.

Although bruising can take a longer time to resolve and fade completely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Bruising means leaking of blood in the subcutaneous tissue. It may take 2-3 weeks to complete recovery.

First, it is red then became dark then became yellow then reach the normal colour. Use tablet chymoral forte twice a day for five days.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
