How Can Throat Infection And Pain In The Neck Be Treated?

Hi there. I was diagnosed with a throat infection on Tuesday with also a build of fluid behind the ear drum. This is getting worse. I am on antibiotics but I can now hardly swallow and I have a severe throat and earache persistently up one side and my neck hurts so bad I can’t lie on it. My neck also hurts if I press it. My tonsils look massive to me. I feel like ringing 111 or going to a hospital it hurts so much, but my mum makes me wonder if I’m overreacting. I do have photographs however can’t attach them on here. Thanks.

Hello,

If you have been using the antibiotics for at least 48 hours and there has been no improvement, then you may need to be reassessed, a small amount of improvement would have been expected.

You can try using an anti-inflammatory pain killer to help with the discomfort example, Naproxen or Ibuprofen drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
