General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Strep throat can cause enlargement of the tonsils. It occurs as a result of the inflammatory response in the tonsils. The swelling would make it difficult to swallow. A course of antibiotics is usually needed to treat this infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
