How Can Severe Itching After Suffering From Shingles Be Managed?

My 63 year old wife has had a rather serious attack of shingles that has left her with horrible itching. She has been given prednisone and the outbreak has somewhat abated but it has left her with the itching. Should sh consult with a dermatologist or just get back with her doctor?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should consult a dermatologist to prescribe the suitable medications for your case . To relieve itching, Oral anti-histamines with topical medications and lotions are very beneficial.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
