How Can Proteinuria Be Treated While Suffering From Hypertension?

My husband has been treated for HTN for 20 years first with low dose Lisinopril 5 mg daily about 7 years ago he developed a-fib out of the blue and was put on Metoprolol 12.5 mg bid which has fairly well controlled his symptoms. His angiogram at the time of a-fib diagnosis was good no valve problem and no blockages seen. His age is 64. Within the last month his BP has been fluctuating horribly mostly being on the high side and so his cardiologist increased his Lisinopril to 10 mg morning and 5mg evening still with the Metoprolol. Sometimes his BP has been 110/80 to 120/80 but has been also 150/100 to 160/100. His recent creatinine was only slightly elevated but today after his physical he says they found proteinuria. I am worried. What should we do?

HI

As per your history, proteinuria may be due to glomerulonephritis which may be due uncontrolled hypertension. Kindly consult with your cardiologist and you may require increased dose of Lisinopril or any alternative medications.
