How Can Pain And Infection Around A Toe Surgery Site Be Treated?
My daughter has toe surgery in Jan for hammer toes, second and their toe on each footHer toes are still oozing and broken skin and she had some infection around her big toe. To say she has been in pain with her feet is an understatement. She has tried Epsom salts gel which helped some and puts Neosporin but has to take a hydrocodone to sleep at night as they are very painful in the evening hours. She is a cancer patient and on chemo. Could you recommend anything? Thanks!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your description it seems that she has local infection over the feet. She needs antibiotic therapy and hence start a short course of antibiotics like Ampiclox for five to seven days. Analgesics like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac can be used for pain. Apply topical antibiotic like Mupirocin after cleaning with soap and water. If symptoms persist, consult a surgeon and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
