I am 74 year old woman with an eye condition called meibomitanitis. Dr put me on doxycycline Hyclate . I also have osteoporosis. My weight and diet are excellent and I take calcium supplements. I am very active for my age and always have enjoyed biking, walking and swimming. I have been taking this drug since 5-2015. From that time to now my osteopenia has turned to osteoporosis. I m concerned that this antibiotic is preventing my system from absorbing calcium properly. Do you have any knowledge on this? My other option is to use eye drops called Azasite three times a week. This is not covered by insurance and will cost me $600.00 a year! I ve heard bone health is very important as it feeds the blood as well. Pls advise and Thank You!
It is a condition of infection of Meibomian cyst. It is alright that you have been put on doxycycline if there is no improvement from the cyst.
Then you can go for culture and sensitivity and take the most effective antibiotic recommended in culture report. Consult eye doctor for detail examination of an eye there will be an improvement with a change of antibiotic.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
