How Can Imbalance In The Body Be Treated?

How can I improve my balance? I am 78 yrs old and my legs seem strong enough. I ride an exercise bike every day, and that seems easy. But when I try to walk, after a few steps, I start to lose my balance. I now carry a cane, but I use it mainly to just retain balance. Need to regain my balance so I can walk on a few short errands.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Considering your age and based on your description of symptoms, it states that you would need to consult Neurologist and undergo neurological examination. It appears that there could be some amount of dysfunction in cerebellum. Only after clinical evaluation, appropriate treatment can be instituted.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran.S.
