How Can Floaters In The Eyes Be Treated?

Sudden dark string like floaters in the eye. 67 yrs old, diabetic type 2. had normal opaque floaters for many years. These move with eye movement and stay in the same relative position regardless of where I look. There are lots of hair like branches on the string. these are much darker but still remind me of string or webbing. distracting but livable. no pain, Itching, or watering.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You need a retinal examination to rule out the cause of such floaters . They indicate a pull on retina or a posterior vitreous detachment . In some cases there may be a retinal hole and it will require urgent retina laser.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
