How Can Fibromyalgia, GERD And Osteoarthritis Be Treated?

I am 81. I have fibromyalgia, GERD, osteoarthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, renal insufficiency, and high triglycerides. I have a new doctor because of relocation. I had previously taken a statin (lipitor)and was taken off it by my previous physician when it caused some ill effects--more painful joints and muscles, etc. I am not sure I need to be on a statin, which I take at night. I wake up hurting (which I did to some extent due to fibromyalgia) and am even more lethargic than before. What s your opinion.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As far as my study statins in renal insufficiency and in old age causes more myopathy (muscle wasting). There are many drugs other than statins are available to control cholesterol like bile acid aequestrents. I recommend you to go a MD medicine. Get done your lipid profile done and start the treatment as he says. Statins will cause more problems to your muscles.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
