How Can Burning Sensation And Redness In The Eyes Be Treated?

This is concerning my 27 year old son, who has Down Syndrome. He is non-verbal so he can not answer questions, so I have to play detective. He saw an urgent care doctor 4 days ago. His face was very red, it looked like wind burn and his eyes were red, but not putting out any sort of discharge. They gave him eye drops and Cephalexon 500 mg three times a day. His symptoms have not improved, his eyes are very sensitive bright light. Should a wait longer for improvement or get him to an eye specialist?

Cause of burning sensation and redness is to be diagnosed. It can be allergic conjunctivitis and can be trachoma. It can be a foreign body as well. An eye doctor can be consulted and if foreign body is detected it can be removed. Use Cephalaxine eye drop .3% 8 hourly and follow up may be done. It can be viral conjunctivitis or pink eye, they are self limiting and will improve in the due course. Down syndrome is congenital and there is no such treatment.
