How Can A Migraine Beginning With Aura Be Treated?

Nowadays I m getting migraine often. It begins with aura. I used to get it once in 4 years. But recently I m getting once in 10 days. What should I do. I take Dolonex DT + Rantac as recommended by physician during the onset of aura. Is there a prevention medication ?

Hello dear,
I understand your concern.Preventive medicines for migraine are of several classes-Beta blockers(propranolol),Calcium channel blockers(Flunarizine),Anticonvulsants(Valproate and Topiramate) and Tricyclic antidepressants(amitriptyline).Dolonex is Piroxicam which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID) and is actually not a preventive medicine for migraine, rather it can be used to provide benefit in an acute attack. You can discuss with a neurologist to review your history and put you on preventive medicine which suits you the most.I hope it helps.
