Hello. I work as a tailor together with an HIV positive person. We use the same set of pins and sewing needles and minor finger pin pricks or superficial scratches happen on a daily basis as you can imagine. I know HIV is not likely to transmit this way as the virus doesn t survive for too long outside the body. Also the chances that we both used the same pins at small intervals of time is unlikely but still. Do you think I am at risk?
Hello. I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Given the nature of your job there is a very small possibility that you may be putting yourself at risk. As superficial scratches generally do not leave the needles and pins tinged with blood . HIV transmission as you may have been told occurs with exchange of bodily fluid. However you should be more concerned if the nature of pins pricks does result in drop of blood at site of prick and scratches. But all the same I would advice caution.
