How Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed?

Hello doctor. In December 19th I had free oral sex with a female prostitute. During that period there had also been an epidemic of cold in my country. One week later in 26th I was sick with sneezing and some cough. I was between 37 and 38 degrees from 26th to almost 31st of December and during the first week of January I reached 37 during two evenings. During those days I also had a rash at my right cheek which passed away after a few days. I was taking panadol, ponstan and amoxil those days. I am very very scared since I am afraid whether I have been infected with HIV. Sneezing and cough go on a little bit until now but not like the beginning.

Hello,

It can be viral upper respiratory tract infection. Symptomatic management can be done for that.

As you had sexual relation with prostitute, rule out HIV after six week of exposure by HIV COMBO CMIA test or 4th generation ELISA testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
