Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Cholecystectomy Surgery Safe After Seventy Years Of Age?
Hey i am asking a question for my mother. She is 74 yrs old and needs gallstone surgery. Problem is the doctor told her she a 50/50 chance that she would have a heart attack or stroke during surgery. The doctor said she had that chance because of something in her throat. Is there anything else that can help her?
If she is in the geriatric age group and has associated medical issues, it is better to avoid surgery and manager her medically. Her dietary habits need to be changed.
She can take multiple small frequent soft meals, devoid of spices, fats, tea, coffee.
This would improve her symptoms. A PPI like Pantoprazole daily empty stomach can be added.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
