Does An ACDF Surgery Cause Fatigue And Throat Discomfort?

Hello. I am a 62 year old woman, in good health, exercise regularly, normal weight. I had ACDF surgery on C-4, C-5 2 months ago. For the past two weeks I have felt extreme fatigue and feel like there is something in my throat. Could the surgery have caused thyroid problems?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The surgery will not cause a throat problem.

It might be due to a sore throat or pharyngitis due to associated bacterial infection.

You can start with a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxiclav.

Do warm saline gargles and take analgesics like Acetaminophen for symptomatic relief. Do warm saline gargles also.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
