Does The Water Containing Algae Cause Harm To Humans?
My name is Beverly. We have well water. We also have a small aquarium for the children. The fish have been dying in it. My daughter took a sample of the aquarium water to the Pets Smart. They diagnosed the water with algae. Is this also harmful to humans? Our family has been consuming this for a while now.
If you are using well water, usually, I'd suggest to:
- get a sample of well water to the lab and get examined. You should ask the lab to give you a sterile container and how to properly get the sample. This is to avoid false results.
In other words, the water inside the well might be good to drink, but the water-system from collecting the water and other in-house taps could be contaminated.
- scheduled chlorination and other hygienic measures should be taken to avoid contamination of the well.
- you are saying to have a small aquarium for the children. The water inside the well is running; while the water inside the aquarium is not; and there is more possibility to get contaminated.
So, you must change the water in the aquarium regularly and clean the aquarium regularly too.
Hope it helped! Dr.Alba
