Does Sexual Relationship Between Relatives Affect The Future Children
Yes, me and my boyfriend just found out that he is related to my fathers family and my boyfriend is my fathers second cousin. I was wondering if this has any effect on our children that we could have in the future or what are the consequenses of this relationship?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
The offspring of consanguineous relationships are at greater risk of certain genetic disorders. As relatives (cousin) share a proportion of your father's genes, it is much more likely that related parents (now you and your boyfriend) may be carriers of an autosomal recessive gene, and therefore your children are at a higher risk of an autosomal recessive disorder.Risk is greater in mating relationships where the parents are close relatives, but for relationships between more distant relatives (you and your boyfriend), such as second cousins, the risk is lower (although still greater than the general population). so your children out of consanguineous relationships may manifest genetic disorder(autosomal recessive ),in case you and your boyfriend have same carrier genes.
