Does Blood Strings In Urine After TAL Surgery Need Medical Attention?

4 weeks post-op from TAL surgery. Bladder was cut during surgery and stitched due to scarred tissue. Developed a fistula (bladder to vagina possibly. Still undergoing tests.). Catheter was reinserted and is still in place. Currently seeing bright red strings in catheter bag. Should I notify my doctor?

Hello
Thank you for writing to us on Health care Magic.
Based on your history the response to your question is as follows.
1. Blood strings indicates bleeding and clot formation within the urinary tract.
2. This needs to be notified to the doctor. It maybe due to injury secondary to catheter placed or it could be an infection..
3. Also need to get a urine analysis to make sure there is not urinary tract infection. Spread of infection from vaginal tract to bladder due to fistula requires evaluation.
4. Four weeks is a long time, for surgical wound to bleed. Recent catheter trauma or infection requires evaluation. Meet your doctor.
Hope this is helpful to you.
