Do You Need More Penicillin For A Tooth Infection?

I was on penicillin for the past 9 days for tooth infection. I had the first root canal appointment done already. My next appointment to finish it up is on Monday. I will run out of penicillin 2 days before this appointment. Do I need more before then?

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
No need to repeat the penicillin after completeng the course of 3-5days. That is more than enough to cure the infection. You can get the tooth treated with RCT that completes the treatment. Antibiotic course will be given for 3-5 days course, if you take it for long time you might develop antibioma or supra infection. So take only after prescription by your dentist.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.

Dentist Dr. Lizabeth Sloane's  Response
Hello,
You only need to complete your prescribed dose. Your antibiotic helps control the spread of infection while the root canal treats the source. You do not always need an antibiotic while completing a root canal. Your dentist will decide if additional antibiotic is needed at your next visit. Contact your dentist, prior to your visit only if your symptoms have increased, for advice and possible change of antibiotic.
Thank you for your inquiry.
