Could Difficulty In Urination And Pain In Abdomen Be A Matter Of Concern?

My son was in icu on a ventilator. He is now off of it. He was on a catheter for a month. He is having issues of urinating on his own. His abdomen is tight. Should I take him to an urologist? Although I am not a doctor, I suspect it is because of the catheter and maybe his bladder and penis is a little sore right now. He is non verbal and has cerebral palsy but he is well cared for. No issues with skin breakdown; never had a bed sore his 19 years of being bed ridden. It has been a day in half now with this concern. I suspected constipation also since he is regular with the assistance of Miralax. I gave enema, suppository, and Miralax.. He is now having bowel movements. Thanks

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Your son is bedridden with catheter. So tgere is high chance of urinary infection. His abdominal pain may be due to that.

He should go for urine examination and examination by urologist. Then he should take treatment accordingly. Antibiotics like levofloxacin or norfloxacin can be helpful. Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
