Can You Transmit Herpes After Testing Negative For The Presence Of Antibodies Against Herpes In The Blood?

Can you transmit herpes after testing negative for antibodies in blood? My partner stated they recently contracted the virus and we believe that it may have come from me. I had a blood test done and came back negative for hsv1 and 2 antibodies however we both know in males the virus tends to hide itself.

Hello,

If you have tested for herpes antibodies, it means you're looking for past or active infection. In other words, antibodies are produced by your body in response to herpes infection.

If negative, that means that you might have not faced herpes infection. However, there are some factors causing false negative results depending on:
- your immune system
- if the test has been carried out within the window period

You can redo the testing again in a month time; if still negative, then, no fear for herpes infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

All the best.

Regards,
