Can Medications Cause Nightmares And Insomnia?

I was on citalopram hydrobromide and my doc at my annual exam said escitalopram oxalate was a newer med and gave me a script for it. I have been taking it abt 3 weeks and am having trouble sleeping....strange dreams, constant awakening, trouble falling asleep. Is it from this med. I noticed insomnia was a side effect of both meds. However, I never experienced this with the other.

Hello,

Escitalopram is a newer and better molecule of Citalopram. But Clinically in some patients, escitalopram fails in producing desired effects of Citalopram.

So in my opinion, you should switch back to Citalopram because escitalopram is not working in your case. So consult your psychiatrist and discuss all these and get Citalopram prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
