i am a dermatologist. today i gave an injection of lidocaine into a likely dermatofibroma on the arm of a patient. during this superficial injection, some of the lidocaine squirted out a likely pore and directly into my eye. no obvious blood was seen (and needle was likely in the dermis at the time). eye was washed out. patient is married, 25 years old and no risks factors for hiv when asked. Is there any risk for hiv transmission? I did not ask patient to get tested and do not plan on any pep treatment.
