Can Intestinal Parasitic Be Infected By Taking Bath In Unclean Bathtub?

Hi Doc,

I'm worried about the prospects of intestinal parasite. Last night i went to bath in my bath tub it was like a short 15 minutes bath during the time i was fully submerged and rinsed with the water present in the tub. Now in between half way between the bath i realized the water to be little murky and there was like stain spots left on the side surfaces of the bath-tub.

I'm concerned about catching any type of intestinal parasite by bathing in un-clean bath-tub? Are my concerns justified..? Please help

thanks

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Intestinal parasites are generally not transmitted by taking bath in an unclean bath tub.
The usual mode of transmission of many parasites in by entry in to the body by means of drinking water and contaminated foods (vegetables). If you have swallowed the water from the bath tub, then there is a chance of contacting infection, which appears very unlikely.
Hence, do not be worried about it. Even in case you have an infection, you can get it off the body by taking a single dose of road spectrum de-worming tablet Albendazole.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
